WiFi has revolutionized the home security camera industry. It makes it possible to resolve many of the issues that were common with wired security systems. However, there are situations where a WiFi system is impractical.
For example, you may live out in a rural area where there are few wireless services available. A WiFi-based system will not work well for you if you do not have the infrastructure to use it. You can still have a high-quality security system without relying on a WiFi connection to make the whole thing work. Here are several options for home security without using WiFi.
Wired Cameras
If you are not using WiFi security cameras, then you are probably going to use a wired camera system. Wired cameras offer the same performance quality as wireless systems, but you will get a more secure system in exchange. Wired cameras are difficult to hack into and mess with from the outside. This is a potential problem with WiFi cameras.
One of the biggest downsides to wired cameras is that wired security camera installation is difficult and you will probably need someone to install the cameras for you. Home security companies can do this, but it is more expensive than installing a wireless camera system yourself.
Wireless Through Phone Networks
Just because you are not using WiFi, doesn’t mean that you can’t have a wireless security system. You can use a 3G or 4G wireless camera system if your area has a strong wireless phone connection. 3G and 4G are the signal types used by cell phones, and there is an increasing number of security solutions that can access the cell network to communicate with your security system. This gives you all of the benefits of a WiFi system, including being able to check your security cameras from a smartphone. The downside to this is that there may be a fee to be able to use the cell network in your area.
CCTV
CCTV (Closed Circuit Television) is also an option if you don’t want to use a wireless network. CCTV creates a closed loop of cameras and monitoring systems. This makes it extremely difficult to hack since there are no signal transmitters in the system. You can have a CCTV system set up in your home, which is essentially the same as your wired system. However, this usually limits the ways you can access your system. There will be a few terminals that you can use to monitor the cameras. Newer systems may have access to an internet connection, letting
